Read with a friend

Dogs in the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library??? As in many schools and libraries, therapy dogs are regular friends welcomed at The Greensburg Hempfield Area Library. The third Saturday of each month the dogs are all ears – and wagging tails – to listen to boys and girls of all ages 3 and older read from their favorite books – or some of ours! Come upon an unfamiliar word? No worry. Read too slow? Or too fast? No worry. Pronounce a word wrong? No worry. Kaya, Ellie, Dora, Bella, and Dudley are certified therapy dogs who listen with acceptance and without judgement. Their gentle companionship helps motivate children to develop reading confidence skills through their warmth and approval. As literacy skills improve, the boys and girls don’t just learn HOW to read. They learn to LOVE to read!

There’s nothing more wonderful than relaxing with a good book … unless it’s relaxing with a good book AND a sweet therapy dog! Come join us!
