Types of Donations

Leaving a legacy is simple. Some options include

  • include the Library in your will
  • name the Library as a beneficiary on a life insurance policy or retirement plan
  • donate assets from your 401(k) or other qualified retirement plan
  • establish a trust that pays yearly income to the Library
  • save on taxes and make a tax-free gift with an IRA

Some employers graciously match charitable donations made by their employees to qualifying non-profit organizations like the Library. This is a great way to make an even bigger impact on a donation you already were planning to make this  year. Speak to your financial or human resources representative to learn more about your company’s matching gifts policy. If one doesn’t exist already, you could make the suggestion.

Making a donation in memory of or in honor of a loved one leaves a lasting legacy that will make a difference for future generations. These types of memorial gifts also can commemorate celebrations like the birth of a new baby, a milestone birthday, an anniversary, graduation, or retirement. Honoring your loved ones, past and present, is a non-traditional, but heartfelt gift that makes them feel important. They are perfect for “the person who already has it all” or “the hard to shop for.” To learn more about memorials and commemorations, contact the Library Director.

You may also print this form to be mailed with your check to designate a Memorial Gift or Honor Gift.

Online general donations are non-designated funds that allow the Library to determine where funds are needed and allocate them to cover expenses. Project specific or designated funds restrict where and how the funds can be used. For example, GHAL receives funds designated for children’s programs and books regularly, of which they are extremely grateful. General donations allow the Library, in part, to retain staff needed to run those programs, provide computers, equipment and other materials needed for day-to-day operation. Non-designated funds make it possible for the Library to run smoothly and professionally.

Mailed general donations are available if you prefer not to use the secure online general donation option.

For general donations, make your check payable to “Greensburg Hempfield Area Library.”

Donations may be mailed to:

Make an even bigger impact on the Library by turning your general donation into a recurring donation!

Recurring donations can be set up to automatically contribute a predetermined gift on monthly, yearly, or other time schedule. GHAL’s system currently is set up to process monthly recurring donations. If you would like to specify an alternate schedule, please contact the Library Director at (724) 837-5620.
